In my previous post I shared with you my journey to find the perfect dress for my sister's wedding and I attached a picture of all of us. What you dont know is that in that picture are all of my bridesmaids minus Amy. We both have the same bridesmaids for our wedding :)
I always loved the look of a summer white wedding. I decided early on that all of my bridesmaids would wear different shades of ivory and white. I never thought about a color and now that I am thinking about it - I don't even know what color I would choose. I also decided I would give my bridesmaids some free reign when looking for a dress. I didn't want to micro manage the process, however when you have an expectation of what the dresses should look like its also hard to take a backseat. My ideal dress was flowy, chiffon, and ankle length.
So, here I am doing the same thing all over again - sharing dresses from every bridal website and searching every wedding blog and website to find diffierent dresses for each girl.
This past weekend Adam and I drove to Boston to visit Amy and her husband, Justin. (I love calling him her husband, its still a new concept for amy and justin to be husband and wife). Amy made an appointment to try on a Vera Wang dress at a bridal boutique on Newbury Street. She was really excited about this dress - but when we got to the store and saw that it was covered in tuille we both looked at each other and said, "oh" - The dress was not at all what we expected. Since we had the appointment, we spent a few minutes browsing at some other designers and dresses and tried some of them on. In ten minutes we knew that this was all wrong, and left the store. The truth is - these dresses are not at all what I am looking for. All of these dresses have so much material and fabric, that make them look not so nice. Most chiffon dresses are cut empire waist, and this look is gorgeous but not the right look for us. (We all have boobs, so empire waist is not the right cut).
I think our best option is to hit the pavement - walk into stores and peruse the summer collection to find the perfect dress for each of my bridesmaids. I am confident that we will have success, but I need some more time.
I will keep you posted on our journey!

Bridesmaid Dresses Part I

Who would have thought finding the right bridesmaid dresses would be such a challenge?!
My sister Amy got married in January and she wanted her bridesmaids and maid of honor (that was me) to wear midnight blue - an amazing color! She preferred that her ladies wear a dress that they love and would want to wear again as well as show off their own personal style. So, she left it up to us to find the perfect dress however there were some guidelines; the dresses should be floor length, the same fabric, and the same shade of blue. Piece of cake, right?.... Wrong!
The bridesmaids (there were six of us; one is missing in that picture) sent emails daily. I kept a trail of all our emails and they went on for weeks. Do you know the button..."share with a friend" - we shared dresses and forwarded dresses from every bridesmaid designer and website out there. I tried on dresses from 5 or 6 different designers, and while in the dressing room we snapped pictures of each other with our Iphone and blackberry to send off to Amy for her approval (she lives in Boston). At the end of the day, while she appreciated our efforts she really was not crazy about any of them; and nor were we. So, the search for the perfect bridesmaid dress continued. After many more rounds of clicking share with a friend, we all liked the Priscilla of Boston styles the best. I went their twice, mixing and matching the different dresses to make sure the shade of blue was the same blue as the other dress, and that the fabric and shimmer of the dress was just right. We lined the dresses up next to each other to make sure that they all had the same look (well the same but different) and they did.
After an exhaustive search, we finally found the dresses. We wore 4 different styles of Melissa Sweet and Priscilla of Boston. They were perfect, and in the end each of us were so happy with the dress that we picked out. Part II continues with my search to find my bridesmaids the perfect dress...
